The Integrity of Continuous Miner and Personal Dust Samples

Coaltech | July 2021

R1500,00

Description

This project describes an extensive programme of ‘shadowing’ and monitoring of continuous miner and personal dust samples in production sections of an underground colliery over a three month period. One third of all respirable dust samples, both continuous miner and personal samples, have been shown to be unreliable. The main causes of unreliable samples were in the preparation, issuing, receiving, and wearing of dust pumps.

What this report found

Relinquishment criteria follow from the agreed post-mining land use. The land use is the goal and the criteria measure whether it has been reached. The guideline sets out a framework for approving those criteria at each mining phase, from the initial environmental management plan through to decommissioning, and compares South African practice with Australian, Canadian and international guidance.
