Description
The Carbon Farming Model for Rehabilitated Coal Mine Land assessed the potential to transform rehabilitated coal mine land into productive landscapes that support biomass production, renewable energy generation, soil regeneration, carbon sequestration and community enterprise development. The project demonstrated that rehabilitated mine land can successfully support high-biomass species, particularly when supported by organic amendments such as biochar and digestate. It provides a practical and scalable approach for turning post-mining land from a rehabilitation liability into an environmental, economic and social asset.
